Since answering the call to the ministry in 1954, Russell W. Davis, Sr., Founder and Pastor Emeritus of Christ’s Church of the Jesus Hour has worked tirelessly and selflessly to serve the spiritual needs of the metropolitan Kansas City community.  He gives all honor and glory to God. Davis was born October 5, 1918 in The Dalles, Oregon.  He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a ten year old boy in the St. Matthews AME Church in Bonner Springs, Kansas.  He is a graduate of Western University in Kansas City, Kansas.  Davis received seminary training at Central Baptist Seminary, and earned both a Master and Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Park University in Parkville, Missouri.  He also served as Dean of the Carver Bible Institute.

Davis is a veteran of World War II and during his service, had the opportunity to unofficially serve as chaplain.  When he returned to Kansas City, he continued to feel the call of God on his life.  He worked diligently in his church, Allen Chapel AME, Quindaro and during that period, God’s call on his life would not leave.  It was there day and night and at long last Davis surrendered and said, “Lord, wherever, I AM YOUR SERVANT”. Davis was later granted the privilege of becoming a candidate for the ministry by the Board of Elders and Bishop of the AME Church and began the life of selfless service that has been the hallmark of his ministry. His first pastoral assignment was Brown Chapel AME Church in Grandview Kansas.  He later was assigned to pastor New Bethel AME Church in Greystone Heights, Kansas; St. Luke AME Church in Kansas City, Kansas, and St. Luke AME Church in Lawrence, Kansas.

The hand of God was on His servant’s life and ministry, and in 1971 Davis was led of the Lord Jesus Christ to found the non-denominational Christ’s Church of the Jesus Hour, where he has pastored for over 40 years.  The name was given to him by the Lord. “His spirit gave me the understanding that the Church belonged to the Lord Jesus Christ.  He purchased it with His own precious blood.  This is HIS hour.  The church should have His name – the Christ’s Church of the Jesus Hour”.

During his nearly 60 years in the ministry, Davis has been blessed of God to preach the gospel on both coasts of this nation, as well as in Haiti, Japan, Greece, Italy, and Israel.  Before her passing, Elsie C. Davis, his wife of 64 years, labored side by side with him in the ministry.  The Davis children are: Rita, Constance, Marlene, Dawna and Russell, Jr.

The staple of God’s calling on Pastor Davis’ life has been the unselfishness of his person to person ministry.  Though away from the pulpit, he continues to teach and instruct the ways of God, provides financial support, and is continually in prayer for this church and this congregation. A servant: faithful in season and out of season.  God be praised!
